Elon Musk Unveils xAI: A Quest to Understand the Universe

In a Twitter Spaces audio chat, Elon Musk introduces xAI, an artificial intelligence company focused on unraveling the mysteries of the universe.
Musk delves into various topics, expressing concerns about AI risks and proposing an alternative to tech giants like Microsoft and Google.
Elon Musk, the visionary entrepreneur, revealed his newest venture, xAI, during a captivating 90-minute Twitter Spaces audio chat. Exploring topics ranging from the evolution of Earth to the vulnerability of human civilisation, Musk outlined his ambitious vision for xAI: understanding the universe.
With a touch of humour, Musk coined xAI's mission statement as "what the hell is really going on?" This new company comes to light after Musk voiced his criticism of OpenAI and Google, accusing them of developing AI technology without adequately considering the associated risks to humanity.
Despite requests for comment, OpenAI and Google have remained silent on Musk's allegations.
In contrast, Musk emphasised the need to create a "good AGI" (artificial general intelligence), positioning xAI as an alternative to established players like Microsoft, Google and OpenAI. AGI represents AI that possesses problem-solving capabilities on par with human intelligence.
During the Twitter Spaces session, which experienced a slight delay as the algorithm was adjusted to reach a wider audience, Musk revealed that xAI would collaborate closely with his other ventures, Twitter and Tesla (TSLA.O).
xAI intends to leverage publicly available tweets to train its AI models and potentially partner with Tesla to develop AI software. Musk believes this collaboration would yield "mutual benefit" and could expedite Tesla's advancements in self-driving technology. Additionally, he criticised all AI companies for employing what he deemed as an illicit approach by training their models using Twitter data.
Advocating for AI regulations, Musk disclosed his efforts to secure meetings with White House officials and expressed the importance of governing AI during recent encounters with top Chinese government officials.
