The DYSON ONTRAC™ HEADPHONES will be available for purchase in Singapore at dyson.com.sg starting September/October. It will retail for S$699. The availability of ear caps and cushions has yet to be announced.
Dyson enters the headphone market with the new OnTrac headphones. Exceptional battery life of up to 55 hours on a single charge. Customizable design with over 2,000 different combinations.
While this is not Dyson's first effort into headphones, the previous model, the Dyson Zone, was a niche product that combined headphones and an air purifier. However, the OnTrac headphones have the potential to become a mainstream challenger to industry heavyweights such as Bose, Sony, and Apple.
One outstanding characteristic of the OnTrac headphones is their long battery life. Dyson promises that these headphones would last up to 55 hours on a single charge. In comparison, Apple's AirPods Max have a battery life of around 20 hours. Although my experience with the OnTrac was brief, if Dyson's claims are correct, it might be a game changer in terms of longevity.
Customisation is another important feature of the OnTrac headphones. With a variety of options, you can make your headphones stand out from the crowd. Choose from a variety of ear cap designs, including polished aluminium and ceramic-like finishes.
Furthermore, there are a variety of ear cushion hues available. There are almost 2,000 possible combinations, so you never have to worry about someone else sporting the same style. However, it is preferable to avoid wearing two different coloured ear cushions at the same time, as this may appear weird. Nonetheless, the ease and speed with which ear cups and cushions may be switched allows for easy customisation.
It's worth mentioning that extra ear cups and cushions are an additional expense. To save money, choose your chosen hues ahead of time.
Dyson has managed to embed a long-lasting battery inside the OnTrac headphones' headband, allowing them to be worn comfortably without feeling heavy. This design option also minimises the weight on your ears, allowing for comfortable long-term wear. The foam material utilised for the ear cups improves overall comfort, delivering a pleasant experience even during extended listening periods.
The OnTrac headphones provide excellent audio quality. Dyson promises an immersive listening experience with to noise-cancelling technology that decreases ambient noise by up to 40 decibels. The headphones have an audio range of 6Hz to 21Hz, which exceeds the capabilities of the human ear.
While the OnTrac headphones don't enable spatial audio or Dolby Atmos, they do provide excellent sound quality. During my testing in a reasonably calm working environment, the music sounded great, and the noise-cancelling feature worked well even without music.
The OnTrac headphones are expensive, costing $499.99 in the United States and £449.99 in the United Kingdom. Additional pairs of ear cups and cushions cost $49.99 or £49.99. These headphones will be available for purchase only on dyson.com beginning August 1st.
