This time around, the household appliance brand has come out with what it claims is the world’s slimmest vacuum. Introducing the all-new PencilVac, a lightweight cordless vacuum that’s almost as thin as a traditional broom. And it achieves that ultra-slim form factor by integrating all the internals, from the battery to the motor, among other electronics, into the thin handle that measures just 38mm in diameter. That’s the same thickness as the brand’s Supersonic r hair dryer.

The vacuum is not just super thin; it’s also incredibly lightweight, coming in at just under four pounds.

“Engineering our smallest and fastest vacuum motor is no simple feat. It was more than miniaturising every piece of technology. It is a precise integration of motor design, electronics, software, and hardware, all working together seamlessly,” said John Churchill, Chief Technology Officer at Dyson.

What’s more, it’s the only vacuum that features four Fluffycones to detangle long hair. The design of these Fluffycones cause long hairs to slide and eject to the end of the so they can be sucked up by the vacuum, not tangled up around the brush. This should save you from needing to cut or pull long hair out of the brush bars. The Fluffycones also feature LED lights that illuminate dust and debris, enabling you to see when floors have been cleaned.

“We have taken cleaner heads in a new direction with our four conical brush bars counter rotating, so that the head simply floats on the floor, giving excellent cleaning in any direction,” said James Dyson, Founder of Dyson.

Inside, the PencilVac houses a Hyperdymium 140k motor, Dyson’s smallest and fastest vacuum motor yet. According to the brand, this should provide the vacuum with high suction power, allowing for more efficient cleaning.

The vacuum also includes a 22mm linear dust separation system that captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, as well as a dust compressing system that uses air to maximise bin capacity.

When the vacuum runs out of battery, you can magnetically connect it to charge it back up. It also has a swappable battery pack for up to 60-minutes of fade-free suction. The vacuum features a small LCD screen that shows an estimate of how long you can use it for before the battery dies.

The PencilVac is also Dyson’s first cordless vacuum to connect to the MyDyson mobile app, which offers access to additional settings, alerts for when the filter needs to be cleaned, and step-by-step maintenance instructions.
