Updated: Dec 19, 2023
Asus makes its return to Computex in 2023, bringing with it a range of products that doubles down on its commitment to sustainability.
The computer hardware maker announced its latest innovations at the tech trade show, covering everything from eco-friendly laptops, ROG gaming powerhouses, health-focused devices and new monitors, among many others.
Here are the top announcements:
Asus Carbon Partner Services
Asus continues to find ways to reduce the carbon footprint of its devices. The company's new Carbon Partner Services looks to support that initiative by providing businesses with the option to adopt eco-friendly devices, highlighted by the ExpertBook B9 OLED and B5 OLED, as well as the BR1402F series.
The ExpertBook B9 OLED is supposedly the world's first carbon footprint and carbon-neutral verified business laptop. The 14-inch machine has an FHD 16:9 display and is powered by an Intel Core i7-1255U processor at 1.7 GHz. It's constructed with post-industrial recycled metal and comes in FSC Mix-certified packaging to reduce carbon footprint.
The ExpertBook B5 OLED, on the other hand, is geared towards professionals who need a reliable and lightweight daily driver, weighing only 1.4 kg. It's, as Asus claims, the world's lightest 16-inch business laptop, featuring a 4K OLED display and powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core i7 processor.
The BR1402F, meanwhile, is the world's first 14-inch, two-in-one rugged laptop for education. Asus says it's designed for K-12 students, with the device boasting a rugged 14-inch form factor with protective features, upgradable memory and storage, a modular design, a touchscreen display and easy-charging USB-C ports, to name a few features.
Asus also brought with it a number of commercial networking devices to the event. The new RT-BE96U Wi-Fi 7 router and ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro Wi-Fi 7 mesh system, for example, deliver speeds up to 19,000 Mbps and 30,000 Mbps, respectively. Alongside the two is the PRT-AX57 Go, a compact device that can provide fast on-the-go Wi-Fi with up to 3,000 Mbps speed.
Thin-and-Light Laptop Models
Apart from eco-friendly releases, Asus unveiled thin-and-light laptop models that demonstrate its Lumina OLED technology, which delivers unprecedented visual quality. That includes the Zenbook S 13 OLED, which, as Asus claims, is the world's slimmest OLED laptop. It has a 16:10 2.8K OLED NanoEdge display with Dolby Vision while weighing only 1 kg with a thickness of 1 cm.
Asus also has thin-and-light models for the young and trendy, which come in the form of the Vivobook S 15 OLED. The laptop features a colourful and lightweight design and is powered by Intel Core i9-13900H processors. For display, it has a 2.8K OLED HDR panel that supports 120Hz refresh rates. It also is Intel Evo-certified, providing long-lasting battery life.
Healthcare Solutions
Asus is venturing into health tech as well, debuting a number of health-focused devices at Computex 2023. One of which is the VivoWatch 5 AERO, a smart band with dual ECG and PPG sensors to measure pulse transit time (PTT), heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep tracking and real-time health data. It even includes a GPS and G-Sensor to accurately measure movements during exercise.
The Portable Ultrasound Solution, meanwhile, is a series of compact and lightweight point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) solutions for both humans and animals. These smart imaging devices feature wireless connectivity and a battery life of up to four hours.
Besides these two, Asus also announced the HA2741A, a monitor for medical professionals. The 27-inch 4MP IPS panel delivers clear images for accurate medical imaging and is compliant with the DICOM Part 14 standard. It can automatically compensate for changes in ambient light as it maintains the accuracy of the DICOM curve. The monitor also features multiple connectivity options, including DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C and a USB Hub.
New Innovations
Asus didn't attend the event without bringing with it a few novelties and surprises. Chief of which is the VX series of monitors, which are designed with sustainability in mind, using recycled materials in the construction and packaging. These monitors boast a 100 Hz refresh rate, an IPS panel and compatibility with the DisplayWidget Center App for easy settings customization.
ROG Gaming Announcements
Asus, of course, didn't forget its ROG gaming brand, with it having its own booth at the event. Among the products showcased, there is the ROG Strix Scar 18, a gaming powerhouse that features an 18-inch panel with up to QHD resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the laptop packs up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor with 24 cores and 32 threads and up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.
For those who prefer desktops, the ROG G22CH is a compact 10-litre PC that packs serious hardware. It ships with up to an Intel Core i9-13900KF processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card.
There's also the ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD monitor, a 49-inch ultrawide (5120 x 1440) 1800R QD-OLED panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 0.03 ms response time. It also includes a custom heatsink and graphene film to deliver improved heat dissipation that would reduce the risk of burn-in and boost the peak brightness up to 1000 nits. Connectivity options include USB-C with 90 W power delivery, DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1.
Lastly, the ROG Matrix RTX 4090 is a liquid-cooled graphics card, enabling users to boost gaming performance without having to worry about thermal issues. It boasts the industry’s first liquid metal thermal solution directly on the graphics card’s GPU die. What's more, it has a 360 mm radiator with magnetic daisy-chainable fans to further cool the graphics card.
