A Chinese engineering student has captured global attention with a sword-shaped drone that appears to hover and fly on command, sparking viral interest across social media platforms.

The drone, dubbed a "levitating" sword, features four rotors positioned symmetrically at the front, back, left, and right. These rotors generate enough torque to lift the device off the ground, allowing it to hover and manoeuvre through the air.
The student controls the drone using a device worn on the left palm and forefinger, enabling gesture-based directional commands.

A video of the drone has gained significant traction online, with one Reddit post alone receiving 93,000 upvotes. The footage has also been widely shared on other platforms, drawing both admiration and scepticism.
Despite the buzz, it remains unclear whether the student actually built the drone. Similar products, such as the Flying Sword RC Glider available on Amazon, closely resemble the one shown in the video. Other users have pointed out that nearly identical drones can be found on sites like xiaohongshu.com.
While the sword drone may not be a unique invention, it has reignited interest in creative drone designs. A recent example includes a 3D-printed amphibious drone from China that can fly, walk, and swim, showcasing innovative engineering.
