Chinese Chipmaker Iluvatar CoreX Claims New Graphics Processing Unit Matches Nvidia Processor

Chinese artificial intelligence chipmaker Iluvatar CoreX claims that its new Tiangai 300 graphics processing unit can match and even surpass Nvidia's H200 in real-world workloads. The Shanghai-based firm demonstrated the chip outperforming the H200 in complex multimodal tasks during a live presentation for mainland Chinese media outlets.

The H200 stands as the most advanced Nvidia processor approved for export to China under current United States trade rules. In a text-to-image test, the Tiangai 300 achieved a 100% completion rate with a throughput of 0.101 images per second.
This compared with the H200's 87.5% success rate and throughput of 0.086 images per second. State-backed Shanghai INESA previously conducted benchmark tests showing the Tiangai 300 reaching 1.05 times the throughput of the H200 under typical deployment conditions.
A separate financial report noted that the Chinese processor beat the H200 in mixture-of-experts throughput by 15% while slashing first-token latency by up to 30% in long-text processing. The Tiangai 300 also delivered 1.33 times the effective throughput of Nvidia's prior-generation H100 when fine-tuning an open-source model.
Domestic contenders are racing to deliver viable home-grown substitutes under Beijing's self-sufficiency drive and tightening trade curbs. Iluvatar has laid out an ambitious multi-year architecture road map aiming to leapfrog Nvidia's advanced Rubin platform within two years.
The firm previously reported that its Tiangai series reached 10,000-card-scale deployments to prove commercial viability. Additionally, the company's Tongyang TY1200 processor outperformed Nvidia's Thor T5000 by 20% in specific large language model tests.
