China plans to install more than 100,000 high-speed electric vehicle chargers by 2027, as the government moves to regulate and expand its charging infrastructure.

The announcement was made Monday in a notice issued by four central government departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission.
The directive urges EV charging operators to prioritise replacing older chargers with newer, faster models, especially those with utilisation rates above 40% during major holidays.
The initiative aims to address long queues at charging stations during peak periods and promote more efficient planning and construction of charging facilities.

Chinese companies such as BYD, Huawei, and Zeekr, owned by Geely, have already introduced ultra-fast chargers capable of delivering over 1,000 kilowatts.
These chargers can add 400 kilometres of range in just a few minutes, significantly reducing charging time for EV users.
The move comes as automakers including Tesla and BYD race to expand their high-speed charging networks across the country.
