China introduced extensive AI literacy programmes in primary and secondary schools nationwide for the new academic year starting Sept. This initiative aligns with the national "AI+" strategy.

The country aims to prepare students for an AI-shaped future and plans to make AI education universally accessible by 2030.
In Beijing, all schools are now required to offer a basic AI course. This course must include a minimum of eight class hours per academic year.
East China's Hangzhou implements a more comprehensive curriculum, mandating at least 10 hours annually. This applies across all grade levels, from elementary to high school.

Hangzhou's curriculum is tiered to match students' development. It starts with hands-on activities for young children and progresses to understanding core principles for older students.
AI is also transforming the classroom environment. Some schools utilise AI assistant robots to co-teach lessons, aiming to increase student engagement.
Smart platforms assist teachers in grading homework more efficiently and providing personalised feedback. Additionally, certain classrooms are employing brain-sensing headbands and AI analysis.
These tools help teachers adapt their methods in real-time. To support this transition, authorities are focusing on teacher training and partnerships.
Hangzhou has established a framework specifically to improve teachers' AI skills. The city is also promoting collaboration among schools, universities, and technology companies.
