China’s Ministry of Education has launched a new series of online courses aimed at equipping students with skills in high-demand sectors such as artificial intelligence and the low-altitude economy.

The Smart Education of China platform now offers 1,455 high-quality educational resources, including 138 first-class university-level courses across 33 practical disciplines.

The initiative also includes a growing number of application-oriented micro-majors tailored to meet industry needs.
Micro-majors are compact, specialised sets of core courses offered by universities. They are designed to be interdisciplinary and flexible, allowing students to gain targeted competencies without committing to a full degree programme.
Students who complete a micro-major receive a certificate of completion, though no formal degree is awarded.
According to China Youth Daily, survey data shows that over 80% of students who completed a micro-major reported improved practical skills and better job prospects.
Graduates from provincial universities who pursued micro-majors have seen a notable increase in successful job placements.
