ByteDance dismissed 353 employees for corruption and referred 39 to law enforcement for criminal prosecution in 2024, the company confirmed on 7 March.

The announcement was made internally on 6 March in ByteDance’s Corporate Discipline and Professional Ethics Committee report. The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to combat internal corruption.
A previous report in Nov. 2024 detailed 103 dismissals, with 11 cases referred to law enforcement. That report also highlighted an incident involving a former intern who maliciously attacked a model training task due to dissatisfaction with resource allocation, causing losses. ByteDance terminated the internship and reported the case to industry integrity alliances and the intern’s university.
Chinese tech companies, including Tencent, have ramped up internal anti-corruption measures. Tencent reported over 100 dismissals and 20 criminal cases in 2024.
