BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke confirmed the automotive company is developing humanoid robots in-house for global 4S dealership showrooms and future home use.
The internal initiative is codenamed the Yao-Shun-Yu project and has reached its seventh generation of iteration.

The company plans to deploy the humanoid robots in overseas dealership locations first to handle product demonstrations, customer greetings, and standardised sales support services.
European 4S stores are expected to be among the initial deployment sites to address difficult recruitment and high multilingual service costs.
Longer-term plans for the project include expanding into home environments to provide housework, meal preparation, and social companionship.
Li stated the global humanoid robot industry faces a structural imbalance where Chinese robots have strong hardware but weaker intelligence, and United States competitors excel in intelligence but have less developed physical capabilities.
The stated goal for BYD is to build well-rounded humanoid robots that combine cognitive and physical competence on a single platform.
The firm expects humanoid robots to reach commercial scale in China before other markets, with BYD serving as one of the earliest and largest domestic purchasers.
Li predicted the manufacturing capability of the organisation will translate directly into competitive humanoid robot production at scale.
BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke confirmed the in-house development of humanoid robots under the Yao-Shun-Yu project.
Initial deployment will target overseas dealership locations, including European 4S stores, to assist with multilingual customer services and demonstrations.
Future iterations of the project aim to place robots in home environments for cooking, housework, and companionship.
