BYD announced plans on Aug. 22 to construct its fourth electric vehicle plant in Southeast Asia. This new facility in Perak, Malaysia, is expected to commence production in 2026.

The Chinese EV manufacturer intends to assemble vehicles from completely knocked down (CKD) kits at the site. This new facility will encompass 600,000 square meters within a tech park located in Tanjung Malim.

This expansion follows the opening of BYD's initial regional plant in Rayong, Thailand, last July. That facility holds an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
The company is also currently building two further plants, one in Cambodia and another in Indonesia. The Cambodia plant is slated to begin operations later this year [2025], while the Indonesia plant commenced operations in January 2026.
In contrast, BYD has postponed its plans to establish an assembly plant in Vietnam.
