This move follows the opening of BYD's first overseas passenger car plant in Rayong, Thailand, just one year ago. The facility has an annual production capacity of 150,000 electric vehicles.

Ke Yubin, general manager of BYD Thailand, stated that the initiative marks another step in BYD’s globalisation strategy. He also highlighted Thailand’s significant role in the global electric vehicle supply chain.

Thailand offers various incentives to overseas automakers, such as 0% import duty, tax cuts, and direct subsidies for electric vehicle imports. However, companies must offset these imports with domestic production, which includes vehicles made for export.
