A new robot store in Beijing is offering over 100 consumer-oriented robots, including life-sized Albert Einstein replicas and chess-playing machines, as part of China's drive to lead in artificial intelligence and robotics.

The store, which opens Friday, features humanoid robots from more than 40 Chinese brands, including Ubtech Robotics and Unitree Robotics.
It is one of the first in China to focus on selling humanoid and household robots directly to consumers.
Store Director Wang Yifan said the shop operates under a "4S" model—sales, spare parts, maintenance and survey services—similar to car dealerships.
Robot prices range from 2,000 yuan (SGD 380) to several million yuan, depending on features and capabilities.
Wang said that for robots to become part of everyday life, companies must offer customised solutions beyond just manufacturing.
China is investing heavily in robotics to address demographic challenges such as an ageing population and economic slowdown.
Over the past year, the sector has received more than USD 20 billion in subsidies.
Beijing also plans to launch a one trillion yuan (SGD 190 billion) fund to support AI and robotics startups.
