Baidu's office agent, Dazi, recorded the fastest desktop growth among artificial intelligence work assistants during the previous month. This development aligns with the company's reinforced commitment to an application-driven ERNIE strategy, focusing on real-world usage over mere token consumption in the competitive office AI market.

According to the AICPB ranking for the most recent period, Dazi achieved 6.74 million monthly active users on desktop systems, placing it second to Tencent's WorkBuddy, which recorded 11.15 million users. However, Dazi registered a remarkable growth of 1,063.79 per cent from one month to the next, representing the quickest expansion observed among any office AI agent. This surge highlights the escalating product competition within China's office AI sector, according to Pandaily.

And Baidu disclosed at a recent product release that Dazi's user base had expanded nearly ninefold in the preceding four weeks. Since its introduction several months prior, the agent has undergone approximately 150 iterations, with development teams at times releasing updates almost daily. The enterprise edition of the platform now offers 15 suites and 96 distinct skills, catering to various professional domains including finance, legal, product development, research and development, operations, and human resources.

Daily queries submitted to the platform have increased 60-fold since its launch, whilst website visits rose 845 per cent during the previous month compared to the month before. Executive vice president Shen Dou articulated the organisation's view of Dazi's advantage, stating it lies not solely in algorithmic sophistication but in an organisational capacity. He explained that an effective agent must possess a smarter model, a deeper understanding of the user, and the ability to marshal professional tools and methods.

Dazi utilises Baidu's comprehensive full stack AI cloud, a capability that allows for extensive customisation in its delivery to users. This particular attribute presents a competitive edge which rivals, such as Tencent's communication and document focused WorkBuddy, and Alibaba's team collaboration oriented Qwen, find more challenging to replicate effectively.

But the product's success is underpinned by a broader strategic shift initiated by Chairman Robin Li. During a company event some months ago, Mr Li proposed 'DAA', or daily active agents, as a new metric for evaluating artificial intelligence value. This measurement concentrates on the number of agents that successfully complete tasks each day, rather than merely counting tokens processed, signifying a shift towards tangible application.

Mr Li further elaborated on this 'application driven' approach for ERNIE, emphasising that real world applications like AI search, digital humans, Miaoda, Famou, and Dazi provide crucial reinforcement to the model. This strategy forms a self reinforcing cycle where actual products inform the model about essential capabilities, the model then optimises for these tasks, subsequently increasing adoption rates. New usage data then feeds into the next development round.

Baidu is making a considerable wager that as feature sets within the industry converge, the organisation that most deeply implements this application driven flywheel will ultimately emerge as the lasting leader in office AI, retaining users over the long term. This approach prioritises practical utility and continuous feedback from user interaction as the core drivers of platform evolution.

  • Baidu's Dazi exhibited the fastest month to month growth among office AI agents.

  • The platform now records 6.74 million monthly active desktop users.

  • Baidu attributes Dazi's edge to organisational structure and user understanding, supported by a full stack AI cloud.

  • Chairman Robin Li champions an "application driven" strategy, measuring daily active agents for AI value.

  • The company anticipates this iterative, application led development will secure its leadership in office AI.
