Apple Watch Pro Renders Leak, Unveiling New Form Factor
Apple's long-rumoured Watch Pro has seemingly been unveiled, giving us our best look yet at the wearable's form factor ahead of its scheduled launch this week.
The leaked computer-aided designs (CAD) come from industry sources connected to Indian tech news outlet 91mobiles. They show the Watch Pro's new display, which looks larger compared to that of other Apple Watch models, unofficially confirming previous speculations. The bezels around the display are also slim, adding to the all-screen look of the design.
It features a protrusion on the side of the frame, which houses the digital crown, the multitasking button and a microphone. But what’s more interesting is the inclusion of a new physical button on the left side of the display below what looks to be a redesigned speaker vent. The purpose of which is still unknown, though going by speculations, the button could be programmable, letting you, for instance, launch an app or a workout without the need to tap the touchscreen.
While we probably won’t find out for sure what the button does until the event itself, the speculation makes sense, considering how Apple is supposedly marketing this debut Watch Pro model towards extreme athletes, who might appreciate the improved accessibility of certain functions.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who had been reporting about the development of the Watch Pro, confirmed the model shown in the leaked renders in a tweet, saying "This is indeed it".
The model also appears to line up with leaked images of the Watch Pro’s cases, as shared by Sonny Dickson and DuanRui on Twitter, which features a slot for a button on the left side.
Other features of the Watch Pro, according to Gurman, include a larger battery, a low-power mode and a rugged titanium casing. It’s unclear whether these features are also coming to the other models or exclusive to the Pro.
As for the price, 91mobiles says it’ll be the most expensive Watch model from Apple yet, costing somewhere between US$900 to US$1,000.
Apple is expected to officially unveil the Watch Pro, along with the iPhone 14 and a number of other devices at its hardware launch event on 7 September.
