Apple to Resolve iPhone 16 Restart Issue with iOS 18.1 Update
Apple confirms iOS 18.1 update will resolve unexpected restart issue on iPhone 16 models. iOS 18.1 release expected before the end of October, with potential launch dates around October 28 or 29. Users experiencing frequent crashes urged to await the upcoming update for a fix.
Reports of frequent crashes, with some users facing up to 10 restarts a day, have prompted Apple to address the issue in the upcoming iOS 18.1 update.
The highly anticipated iOS 18.1 is set to be released before the end of October, promising not only the debut of Apple Intelligence but also the resolution of the random crash problem plaguing some iPhone 16 models since their launch.
According to MacRumors, affected users have encountered instances where the iPhone's display becomes unresponsive or sluggish to touch input before restarting unexpectedly. The issue occurs sporadically and can even affect devices in StandBy mode, with some users reporting as many as 10 to 20 crashes daily.
While these restarts may be more of an inconvenience than a major crisis, the continuous occurrence of such incidents throughout the day can be frustrating for users. Until now, resolving the issue required a fresh installation or refraining from restoring from an iCloud backup, both of which were cumbersome processes.
Apple has officially acknowledged that the iOS 18.1 update will address the restart problem, as stated in the release notes for the update candidate released recently. The general release of iOS 18.1 is expected before the end of October, with potential launch dates speculated to be around October 28 or 29, typically favoured by Apple for software releases.
However, there is a possibility that the update could arrive earlier, potentially as soon as October 23 or 24. In addition to fixing the restart issue, iOS 18.1 will introduce new features, including the ability to record phone calls and capture Spatial Photos on the iPhone 15 Pro.
