The tech giant has launched a new iMac to market, and it features an M4 chip and Apple Intelligence.

The hardware refresh makes the all-in-one desktop up to 1.7x faster for your daily productivity tasks, and up to 2.1x faster for demanding workflows like photo editing and gaming, compared to iMac with M1.

Meanwhile, the M4’s Neural Engine is also built for Apple’s own generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform, Apple Intelligence, which is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The new iMac comes standard with 16GB of faster unified memory and is configurable up to 32GB.

For its display, the desktop comes with a 24-inch 4.5K Retina panel, and for the first time, it’s available with a nano-texture glass option that drastically reduces reflections and glare, without compromising image quality.

Moreover, the iMac has a new 12MP Centre Stage camera with support for Desk View to enhance video calls. Centre Stage is a feature that keeps you and other subjects centred during a video call. Desk View, meanwhile, uses the wide-angle lens to show you and a top-down view of your desk at the same time. This feature is useful for educators presenting a lesson to students, for example.

In addition to the webcam, the iMac also features a three-microphone array with beamforming and an immersive six-speaker sound system.

For connectivity, the desktop has four USB-C ports that support Thunderbolt 4 for superfast data transfer. It also supports both Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, as well as Touch ID.

iMac with M4 is available in seven vibrant colours, which include fresh shades of green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue, alongside silver. Every purchase comes with a colour-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or optional Magic Trackpad, all of which now feature a USB-C port, so you can charge them using a single cable.

You can pre-order the new iMac with M4 in Singapore starting Wednesday, 30 October, on apple.com/sg/store and in the Apple Store app. It will begin arriving and be available in Apple Store locations and Apple Authorised Resellers, beginning Friday, 8 November.

The iMac with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU starts at S$1,799 and S$1,719 for education, while the variant with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU starts at S$2,099 and S$1,949 for education.

As mentioned previously, Apple also released the first set of Apple Intelligence features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac through free software updates.

Apple Intelligence is the iPhone-maker’s own artificial intelligence (AI) platform, which can create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to help you through everyday tasks.

Among the first features included in this update is Writing Tools, which allow users to refine their language by rewriting, proofreading and summarising text in Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages and even third-party apps.

It also includes a Rewrite option, where the AI transforms what you have written to fit a specific tone like professional or friendly. Proofread, meanwhile, checks your grammar, word choice and sentence structure while also suggesting edits.

You can also select text and have it summarised in the form of a digestible paragraph, bulleted key points, a table or a list.

Other new features coming with the update include improvements to Siri, natural language search in the Photos app and the ability to record, transcribe, and summarise audio in the Notes app.

Apple promises that new Apple Intelligence features will be available in December, with additional capabilities rolling out in the coming months.
