Amazon's journey to introduce a color e-reader involved previous attempts using eInk technology, known for its low power consumption in standard Kindles. The Colorsoft boasts an approximately eight-week battery life, a step up from the three months offered by the latest Paperwhite e-reader.

The tech giant from Seattle also introduced a new Paperwhite model featuring a 7-inch screen, slightly larger than its predecessor. Additionally, Amazon unveiled an updated Kindle Scribe e-reader, enabling users to write on the screen with a stylus and have it converted into legible text.

One of the standout features of the Kindle Scribe is its ability to summarise users' in-book notes using artificial intelligence software, transforming pages of notes into convenient bullet points, as highlighted by the company.

Despite facing competition, Amazon remains a dominant force in the e-reader market, holding over three-quarters of the market share by certain metrics. The company's e-readers are designed for longevity, with a business model that focuses on selling devices at cost and generating revenue through book and reading material sales.

The global pandemic significantly boosted e-reader usage, with many turning to digital reading options as libraries closed during lockdowns but continued to offer e-books for wireless downloads.

Amazon traditionally offers discounts on Kindles during events like Prime Day. The Colorsoft is set to be shipped to customers starting from October 30, while the new Kindle Scribe will be available for shipping from December 4.
