Amazon announced at its AWS re:Invent conference Titan Image Generator, a text-to-image AI model that can supposedly create "realistic, studio-quality images". Customers of Amazon Web Services can now check out a preview of the model on the Bedrock console. It's worth noting, however, that the tool isn't a standalone app but rather a tool that developers can build on for their own image generators.

The new model allows you to either enter a text prompt and generate an image from scratch or upload an existing image and edit it to your liking. It's said to be capable enough to generate relevant images based on complex text prompts while limiting distortions. This, as Amazon points out, lessens the risk of the model creating potentially harmful images.

In line with this, all images generated by Titan Image Generator will contain what Amazon calls an invisible watermark. This is done so via a custom API that you can connect and feed your image to to check the its authenticity. The online retail juggernaut believes that by implementing such a feature it can "help reduce the spread of misinformation by providing a discreet mechanism to identify AI-generated images and to promote the safe, secure and transparent development of AI technology".

Amazon adds that the watermark won't be confined to the metadata file and cannot be tampered with.

For editing, meanwhile, you can perform a range of functions to modify an existing image. You can, for example, select areas in your image in which you want to add or remove details in. Additionally, you can replace your image's background or swap the object that your subject is holding. You can also extend your image's frame by letting the model add generated content, which is similar to Photoshop's Generative Expand feature.

Apart from Titan Image Generator, Amazon at the conference also announced new AI silicon and a new chatbot geared towards enterprises.
