Chinese tech companies are capitalising on the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) smartphones, as they aim to boost consumer electronics sales in the country. Oppo, one of China's premier technology companies, just launched its latest Reno 12 series of smartphones, which have powerful AI capabilities. This move comes after Oppo took the lead in smartphone shipments in China during the first quarter of 2024, according to industry research firm TechInsights.
The new Oppo smartphones run the Android operating system and include a variety of AI-powered capabilities. One standout feature is the ability to upload live photographs, which allows users to capture and share situations in real time. Furthermore, the gadgets include AI-powered features such as automatically eliminating undesired objects from images and presenting AI-generated summaries of collected data.
These advancements are the consequence of Oppo's investment in its own huge language model, AndesGPT. By incorporating these massive AI models into their smartphones, Oppo has dramatically improved the entire operation of their products, giving users a unique and improved experience.
AI smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, and all smartphone brands are embracing this trend. As AI continues to affect numerous industries, smartphones are likely to propel the AI revolution into every home. According to a survey by global market consultancy International Data Corp (IDC), sales of next-generation AI smartphones in China would expand significantly, with an anticipated 37 million units sold by 2024 and 150 million by 2027.
Chen Xiaochun, Oppo's AI technology strategy director, emphasised the importance of mid-range items in advancing AI adoption in the general market. By putting practical AI functions into the Reno 12 series, which costs roughly 2,000 yuan ($276), Oppo hopes to make advanced technology more accessible to a wider spectrum of customers, thereby improving their everyday lives.
