Adobe Launches Firefly with Emphasis on Ethical AI Training
Adobe introduces Firefly Video Model at Max conference. Firefly Image 3 model offers enhanced speed for video creation. Generative Extend feature allows for seamless video and audio editing.
Adobe unveiled the GenAI video creation tool for public use, marking a milestone in the industry.
David Wadhwani, President of Adobe’s Digital Media Business, emphasised, “We compensate creators for training. We do not train on customer content. We do not scrape the internet.” This commitment to responsible AI training is a key feature of Firefly, making it a creator-friendly tool.
Amid concerns about companies scraping the internet for AI training, Adobe's Firefly offers a refreshing approach. The new Firefly Image 3 model boasts a fourfold increase in speed compared to its predecessors, enhancing efficiency in video creation.
Generative Extend, a feature within Firefly, enables users to make subtle adjustments to video clips, such as extending footage by a few seconds. This tool supports both video and audio modifications, allowing for seamless editing within Premiere Pro and other Adobe applications.
The Firefly Video model offers innovative text-to-video and image-to-video tools, empowering users to generate videos based on detailed descriptions or reference images. These methods, available through the Firefly web app, provide a user-friendly experience for content creators.
Deepa Subramanian, VP of Creative Cloud at Adobe, clarified that the Firefly video model is designed to be "commercially safe." By training Firefly on licensed and openly available content, Adobe ensures that users can create content without infringing on copyright laws.
According to Adobe, Firefly is trained on licensed content like Adobe Stock and public domain material, ensuring compliance with copyright regulations. The platform does not extract content from the web without permission, offering a secure environment for creative projects.
For those eager to explore Adobe Firefly, joining the waitlist grants access to the public beta with complimentary features. While the service is currently free, Adobe plans to introduce pricing models in the future. Deepa Subramanian hinted at forthcoming details on pricing during a recent briefing.
