Finally, we get to see how the elusive PS5 console looks like. In the online-only Future of Gaming event, Sony showed off the futuristic-looking PlayStation 5 console alongside the earlier-unveiled DualSense controller.
Designed to be placed standing upright, you get white plates on both the front and back of the console with a strip of black running along its side. Blue accent lights between the white plates and black middle match the DualSense controller, and the design scheme is coherent throughout.

There will be two editions, the standard one with the optical disk drive creating a bit of a bulge, and an even more svelte one that will be a Digital Edition. With more and more gamers opting to purchase games digitally to avoid the hassle of swapping disks every time they want to play a different game, the Digital Edition definitely makes sense.
But that’s not all that Sony showed off. They also showed off slightly more than 20 games that will be coming to the PS5 and even a few launch titles.
Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) was a huge hit for Sony, being one of the fastest-selling games of the year and selling a total of 13.2 million copies (third-best on the list of best-selling PS4 games). Sony and Insomniac Games are building on that success, announcing that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the sequel featuring the protagonist of the Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse movie, will be a launch day title.
Racing fans, rejoice! Gran Turismo 7 has finally been shown off, after years of waiting since the initial announcement, and the game looks absolutely gorgeous. This is a game where you can really see how the developers have taken advantage of the PS5’s hardware.
Gorgeous, realistic-looking tracks paired with cars that most of us can only dream of driving, what’s not to love? One of my favourite memories from childhood is beating my father’s lap time on the Nürburgring track, so I’m definitely looking forward to this game.
Insomniac Games is on a roll with these games. Ratchet & Clank is another popular game and the newest addition to the series, Rift Apart, sees the duo jumping through interdimensional rifts.
Before Dark Souls shot to popularity, there was Demon’s Souls. BluePoint Games is now remaking the 2009 game to take full advantage of the PS5’s abilities. People who enjoyed games like Dark Souls, Bloodbourne and Sekiro will definitely love Demon’s Souls when it finally comes out.
The final game in the Hitman trilogy has finally been announced, and you return as Agent 47, an assassin that always seems to be able to execute his contracts in the most ludicrous of ways (using a fan to blow people off a highrise rooftop, anybody?). Regardless, the Hitman games have always offered a lot of fun, and PS5 console owners will be able to enjoy figuring out the most creative ways to kill their targets in January 2021.
Supernatural action-adventure games are always fun, and what’s more, this one is set in a beautiful rendition of Tokyo. GhostWire: Tokyo is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, and you play as the protagonist fighting against supernatural forces that have overrun Tokyo after 99% of the population disappeared.
Another long-awaited title, Resident Evil 8: Village brings back the protagonist from RE7, Ethan Winters, as he traverses a mysterious village in search of answers after his wife is shot by Chris Redfield, a protagonist from the first few Resident Evil games.
Horizon: Zero Dawn was one of Sony’s best-selling games on the PS4, with around 10 million copies sold. Fans asked for a sequel, and it’s finally coming to the PS5. Horizon Forbidden West sees the protagonist, Aloy, travelling to a post-apocalyptic West America in a distant future where machines roam the land.
And of course, we can’t forget the indie games. Little Devil Inside is an action RPG with survival elements as the protagonist is shown fighting monsters in a variety of environments, including even underwater enemies. The game has been in development for five years after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, so it’s good to see that they’ll be launching on the PS5.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is another PS5 console exclusive game, and it looks like a cross between a Studio Ghibli animation and a Disney film. Players are supposed to find spirit companions, which look quite similar to the soot sprites from Spirited Away, and form a team that will help enhance the protagonist’s abilities as she uncovers the reason for the demise of a village. Gameplay-wise, it looks interesting and definitely more of a calmer game than many of the fast-paced action-adventure games we’re used to.
We’re still a few months out from the Holiday 2020 release for the PS5, but we couldn’t be more excited for it. Hopefully, the release date and pricing for the console will be available soon.
