PlayStation Stars, a new loyalty program that lets you earn exclusive rewards by buying and playing PlayStation games, is now active in Asia.

Sony announced on Thursday, 29 September, that the full Stars experience can now be accessed by PlayStation users in Asian markets, including Japan, via the PlayStation app on mobile devices. The Japanese tech giant plans to later make the program accessible via PlayStation consoles as well.

PlayStation Stars is a free program that lets you earn points by completing certain activities or campaigns. These can include playing any game at least once a month or becoming the first to earn a platinum trophy for a game in your time zone. For example, one of the first campaigns that PlayStation is running requires you to correctly launch games based on clues from songs.

You can then exchange the points you earn for PlayStation Network wallet funds and digital rewards like figurines of beloved and iconic characters from PlayStation games, among other cool goodies.

Grace Chen, Sony Interactive Entertainment's Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise, did note that the rewards aren't non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as they're neither one-of-a-kind nor are they leveraged on blockchain technology. They're simply digital collectibles created for the program that you can enjoy yourself or show off to your friends.

By simply joining the program, PlayStation will give you the Star Gazer Telescope digital collectible as a reward. Among the first collectibles you can snag include the gondolier from Ape Escape 2, PocketStation, Toro and Kuro celebrating and more.

To join, you'll just need to have an adult PlayStation account, and you'll be able to sign-up via playstation.com. Having an active PlayStation Plus membership yields bonus benefits, but it's not necessary.

PlayStation Stars launches in North and South America on 5 October and in Europe and Australia on 13 October.
