Sony's Game Plans Exposed by Hackers, Revealing Exciting Marvel Titles
Updated: Dec 22, 2023
In a shocking turn of events, Sony-owned Insomniac Games has fallen victim to a cyberattack, with more than 1.3 million files being leaked online.
The leaked documents include game roadmaps, budgets and crucial information about an upcoming title based on the popular character "Wolverine." This breach was orchestrated by the notorious Rhysida ransomware group, as reported by Bloomberg News.
According to the leaked files, Sony has ambitious plans to release a series of Marvel-inspired games over the next decade. Among the highly anticipated titles are "Spider-Man 3," as well as games based on the characters Venom and X-Men. The licensing deal between Insomniac Games and Marvel is valued at a staggering $621 million, with the aim to develop and market X-Men games until 2035.
Sony has remained tight-lipped about the incident and has not responded to requests for comment from Reuters. The hack was initially announced by Rhysida on December 12, with the group intending to auction the stolen data for approximately $2 million in bitcoin.
However, they later decided to release the information to the public on Tuesday.
This breach is the latest in a series of cyberattacks targeting the gaming industry. Last year, early footage of Take-Two Interactive Software's highly anticipated game, "Grand Theft Auto VI," was leaked online, causing a major uproar among fans.
The implications of this breach are significant for Sony and its gaming division. The leaked information not only exposes their future plans but also raises concerns about the security of sensitive data within the company. It serves as a stark reminder of the constant threat posed by hackers and the need for robust cybersecurity measures.
