Singtel's First Metaverse Event Showcases Potential For More Immersive Concerts & Fanmeets
In partnership with SK Telecom, Singtel has held the company's first metaverse event, exclusive for Singtel customers, with American singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin meeting 130 fans during the "Destination: ifland" showcase.
All picked through a contest held on Singtel's social media in December, the fans were able to customise their own avatars and engage with Alec Benjamin on SK Telecom's metaverse platform, ifland, where the singer performed and answered questions. The fans were even able to take photographs of their avatar with Benjamin's avatar in an interactive photobooth.
Ms Anna Yip, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Singapore, Singtel, said, “The evolution of the internet is shifting towards a creator economy and immersive virtual worlds. This requires an ultra-low latency network with high-speed connectivity and higher bandwidth to enable the creation and delivery of an enhanced metaverse experience involving multiple users and augmented or virtual reality devices. With SKT, we’re excited to showcase the capabilities of Singtel 5G in enabling innovative ways to engage consumers in the metaverse, such as new product launches, e-gaming, entertainment events and more.”
"Destination: ifland" is the first in a lineup of metaverse-themed events that Singtel and SK Telecom are developing as part of The Meta Guide and there are plans for K-pop fanmeets and more soon, so we might even see popular K-pop groups like Blackpink or BTS doing virtual events and engagements with fans through the ifland app!
