Samsung Unpacked 2020: Galaxy Note20 Series, Galaxy Z Fold2, Galaxy Buds Live & More
Updated: Aug 19
Another August, another Samsung Galaxy Unpacked. This time, there’s a whole bunch of products launched, including the new Galaxy Note20 series, the Z Fold2, Galaxy Buds Live, Tab S7 and the Galaxy Watch3. Let’s take a look at them.
First off is definitely the highlight of the Unpacked, the Note20 and Note20 Ultra. Running on the Exynos 990 processor (or the Snapdragon 865 Plus in some regions), both phones will support 5G networks. Battery life is 4,300mAh and 4,500mAh respectively, while the Ultra version will have a 6.9-inch Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 3200 X 1440 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
The Ultra will also get a 108MP main camera while the standard Note20 gets a 64MP lens, and both phones will have 8K video recording capabilities. Samsung DeX is now wireless too, with compatible TVs released after 2019.
But of course, we can’t miss out the upgrade to the S Pen. Samsung has managed to reduce the latency down to 9ms so you’ll actually see stuff that you write show up almost immediately on the screen.
The Note20 series will be available for preorder in Singapore from 6 August onwards, with free Galaxy Buds+ (Note20 and Note20 5G) and Galaxy Buds Live (Note20 Ultra) earbuds bundled in. Preorder devices will ship from 17 August, while general sales will commence from 21 August onwards. Prices start at S$1,398. More information on the Note20 series is available here.
The Galaxy Z Fold2 is the successor to the Galaxy Fold which came out in 2019, and it definitely looks much improved. The large side notch for the front-facing camera has been swapped to a more discreet punch-hole design, while the external screen is now a 6.2-inch full display instead of a small rectangle.
It will also run on the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, feature a 4,250mAh battery and support 15W wireless charging as well. The triple camera array on the back matches the design of the camera setup on the Note 20 series. There will also be a Thom Browne version, similar to the collaboration for the Galaxy Fold.
As of now, there has been no announcement on the availability of the Galaxy Z Fold2 in Singapore. More information about the Galaxy Z Fold2 is available here.
Smartwatch enthusiasts will be excited with the new Galaxy Watch3. Featuring a physical rotatable bezel, IP68 water resistance, blood pressure, blood oxygen, heart rate, ECG sensors and fall detection, this watch can pretty much do it all.
Preorders for the Galaxy Watch3 in Singapore will start on 6 August, with a 10,000mAh wireless power bank bundled in. Preorder devices will ship from 17 August, while general sales will commence from 21 August onwards. Prices start at S$648. More information about the Galaxy Watch3 is available here.
Building on the excellent Samsung Galaxy Buds+, the new bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live now come with ANC. These are a bit more expensive than the Buds+, coming at US$169. With three microphones in each earbud, it should mean better call quality and decent noise cancellation, but we’ll be looking to test this out ourselves when the Buds Live come to Singapore.
Preorders for the Galaxy Buds Live in Singapore will start on 6 August, with a 10,000mAh wireless power bank bundled in. Preorder devices will ship from 17 August, while general sales will commence from 21 August onwards. Prices start at S$288. More information about the Galaxy Buds Live is available here.
Samsung is also refreshing the tablet lineup with the new Galaxy Tab S7, Tab S7+ and Tab S7+ 5G. The internal specs are mostly similar, with the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor in all variants, with dual rear cameras and a front selfie cam.
The Tab S7+ will have a bigger Super AMOLED screen at 12.4-inches and an in-display fingerprint sensor while the Tab S7 will clock in at 11-inches and utilise a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Both tablets will boast 120Hz refresh rates on their displays, so that’s excellent news.
Preorders for the Galaxy Tab S7 series in Singapore will commence on 6 August, and all preorders will also receive a complimentary Keyboard Cover. Preorders of the Tab S7 will be delivered from 17 August onwards, with the exception of the Mystic Bronze unit, which will be delivered in September. Prices start from S$998. More information about the Galaxy Tab S7 series is available here.
