Mini Embraces Playful Side With Pokémon-themed Concept Aceman Electric Vehicle

Mini has partnered with The Pokémon Company on a concept vehicle that supposedly looks to bring the joy of playing into the driving experience – hopefully not at the expense of the driver's safety.

The vehicle is essentially a Pokémon-themed version of the Concept Aceman, an all-electric crossover which Mini unveiled in July this year. There are, however, some notable additions to the original, apart from the more youthful design language that appear to fit nicely with the Pokémon motif.

When you enter the vehicle, you'll be greeted by none other than Pikachu, who appears in the dashboard's circular, centre display via the dedicated Pokémon Mode. The popular Pokémon then appears to emit bolts of lightning that shoot across the interior, lighting up the dashboard, the inner doors and the cabin with splashes of bright yellow. Pikachu is an electric type of Pokémon, which fits perfectly with how the Concept Aceman is an electric vehicle.

What's more, the vehicle includes animated front lights on the bumper that are sort of evocative of the pixel-based graphics of the early Pokémon games on Nintendo systems like the Game Boy, along with custom puddle lights that shine “Mini x Pokémon” onto the ground when you open the doors.

There's also a built-in exterior projector that lets you cast your screen on a wall while parked. You can use it to host your Pokémon movie nights at some garage, for instance, a la a drive-in theatre.

On top of all these, Mini claims you can connect your gaming console to the vehicle, though what that means is still unclear. Perhaps you can use the interior displays or the projector as a larger screen for your Nintendo Switch. Whatever the automaker has in mind, the gaming features seem to fit right in with the vehicle's "playful" messaging.
