The gaming giant unveiled today the Steam Deck OLED, which is essentially an improved version of the handheld PC it first released in 2021.

As you might have guessed from its name, the new model sports an OLED panel, delivering wider colour range and contrast over the LCD panel on the original. The new panel also supports HDR and can reach a peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits. It's also a tad bit bigger than the original, measuring around 7.4 inches diagonally, with a resolution of 1280x800 and a 90Hz refresh rate.

Battery life also benefits from an upgrade. The Steam Deck OLED, according to Valve, packs a 50Wh battery that can last between 3 to 12 hours of gameplay, which is about 30 to 50% more than the original.

Under the hood, the device ships with a 6 nm APU, 16GB of 6400MHz LPDDR5 RAM and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

Design-wise, it's almost the same as the original, except that it weighs about 29 grams lighter, depending on the configuration. It also has a larger and quieter fan, as well as louder speaks with improved bass.

You also get a 45W power supply with a 2.5m cable too and a carrying case in the package.

The Steam Deck OLED goes on sale on 16 November. The variant with 512GB of storage costs US$549, while the variant with 1TB costs US$649. The 256GB LCD model has also received a price cut and will remain on sale as the entry-level option for US$399. The 64GB and 512GB LCD models, however, will soon be phased out.
