Oppo Reno2 Launch: New Midrange Phone That Can Take Selfie Videos With Bokeh

Oppo’s Reno series launched earlier this year and made waves with their 10x Hybrid Zoom functionality, and when the Reno2 was announced, I was surprised to see that it’s been scaled back to 5x Hybrid Zoom and 20x Digital. Essentially, it’s not quite a successor to the Reno 10X Zoom, but a new entry in the Reno line that should be compared to the Reno instead.

That being said, there are slight upgrades to the phone in terms of the processor (Snapdragon 730 vs Snapdragon 710), GPU (Adreno 618 vs Adreno 616), battery life (4000mAh vs 3765mAh) and the screen size is also slightly bigger (6.5″ vs 6.4″).

But of course, the camera setup is where it’s at, and the new Reno2 now has the same 48MP camera, but also adds a 13MP telephoto lens, 2MP mono portrait lens and 8MP ultra-wide angle lens.

A really nice touch is the addition of bokeh to selfie videos taken with the front camera. The AI seems to work pretty well, and doesn’t look to be too artificial when moving around.

Oppo also announced the Oppo Reno2 Z, which is a cheaper alternative to the Oppo Reno 2 for those on a budget.

More information about the Reno2 (S$899) and Reno2 Z (S$599) are available on Oppo’s website and will be available islandwide from 26 October 2019.
