According to Huawei Central, the logo better reflects the open-source project's vision of interconnectedness and unity among the different developers and contributors. This is supposedly why a circle was chosen as sort of the base of the logo itself, which is meant to symbolise harmonious coexistence.
The small circle represents the core co-construction units and developers of the project, while the larger circle represents their various counterparts. They’re then grouped in a concentric circle, emphasising their shared vision of growing the OpenHarmony ecosystem.
The blue and green gradient of the background apparently also has a meaning behind it. The former represents open-source innovation, while the latter represents ecological prosperity. The combination of the colours in the middle, meanwhile, is said to represent the possibility of infinite industry distribution applications for the software.
The logo was unveiled on 27 July at the 2022 OpenAtom Global Open Source Summit in Beijing. The event, which focused on the theme of “Internet of Everything, Enabling Thousands of Industries,” was attended by OpenHarmony's co-construction units and ecological partners. Together, they showcased and celebrated some of the open-source project’s applications since its initial release in 2019.
During the event, OpenHarmony’s project management committee (PMC) encouraged co-construction entities and individuals to make further recommendations regarding system architecture and capacity development.
OpenHarmony reportedly now has more than 40 primary warehouse code developers, and more than 2800 community contributors behind it. It holds the top spot on the Gitee Activity Index, an online forge that hosts open-source software.
The project has also grown to be an essential component of the world’s smart terminal operating system market, being available in 14 software distribution platforms. It has also amassed over 87 million global downloads with up to 1.6 million community users.
OpenAtom Foundation, the nonprofit group dedicated to the welfare of the global open-source community, has unveiled the new logo of OpenHarmony, the open-source version of Huawei’s HarmonyOS.
The new logo, which is characterised by concentric circles, is meant to reflect the project's vision of interconnectedness and unity among the different developers and contributors.
