A Nevada woman, Kristy Lynn Felkins, 38, from Fallon, pleads guilty to hiring a hitman on the dark web for $5,000 in bitcoin to kill her ex-husband. The plea deal helped her avoid trial and she faces a 5-year prison sentence, followed by 3 years of supervised release, according to court records.
Felkins got involved with the dark web hitman website back in 2016, seeking to have her ex-husband murdered while he was in Chico, California. However, the website turned out to be a scam, taking money from unsuspecting customers instead.
During her court statement, Felkins confessed to offering an additional $4,000 to expedite the murder plot in March 2016. Shockingly, she showed no concern for her ex-husband's new girlfriend, saying she "did not care" if harm befell her during the murder.
The motive behind the dark plan was Felkins' anticipation of a substantial life insurance payment after her ex-husband's death. Her request to the hitman was to stage the murder to look like an accident, even inquiring if it could appear as a mugging gone wrong.
Despite being out of custody until now, Felkins is ordered to surrender in September to begin serving her prison sentence.
