Facebook Says "Sorry" For Global Outage Across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Just less than 24 hours ago, the internet broke when netizens were unable to access WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook managed to resume the connection within eight hours and Santosh Janardhan, Vice President of Infrastructure at Facebook, just issued a statement via their platform to apologise and explain that a faulty configuration change might be the cause for the global outage, with no signs of hacks or user data losses.

"Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt."

The platforms are now back online and it seems that the team behind Facebook is still working "to fully return them to regular operations."
