The California-based audio brand, on Thursday, 8 December launched two versions of Maxwell: one for Xbox and PC and another for PlayStation and PC. Maxwell for Xbox has the first auto-activating Dolby Atmos licence, while Maxwell for PlayStation has Tempest 3D Audio support.
Maxwell boasts high-resolution audio at up to 24-bit 96kHz when connected using the included USB dongle. Meanwhile, its low-latency wireless range and stability are up to three times better than the Penrose, which was released a couple of years ago. The headset also features a wide range of wireless connectivity options, with it supporting LC3 and LC3plus codecs via Bluetooth 5.3 LE Audio technology, along with older Bluetooth codecs like SBC, AAC and LDAC.
Audeze doesn't compromise on sound quality, and Maxwell is no exception to the rule. The new pair of cans can deliver studio-quality sound and powerful dynamics thanks to the 90mm planar magnetic drivers, which, as the brand touts, have three times more surface area than that of the competition.
Maxwell also has a proprietary artificial intelligence-powered noise filtration system to bring clear communication in any environment. The system can automatically eliminate any background noise at the touch of a button – no additional setup required. The headset includes five built-in microphones and a detachable boom mic.
For the design, Audeze chose to go with a spring-steel headband with an adjustable suspension strap to provide greater comfort during long gaming sessions. The memory foam earcups, meanwhile, feature a reinforced dual-chamber design to accommodate passive noise isolation.
Other key features include support for Game-Chat mix, advanced gaming presets and personalised multi-band EQ. If you want to further customise your headset's features, you can do so via the Audeze HQ gaming app.
Maxwell for PlayStation is priced at US$299, while Maxwell for Xbox is priced at US$349. Apart from the consoles they primarily support, both headsets are also compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Nintendo Switch. The first shipments are expected to hit the market sometime in January 2023.
