Adobe Firefly Now Supports Text Prompts in Over 100 Languages
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
Adobe wants to make Firefly, its suite of creative artificial intelligence (AI) models, more accessible to global users.
The software giant announced it would be expanding the Firefly web service to support text prompts in over 100 languages, including Simplified Chinese, Bahasa Malay and Thai, to name a few examples. The service would also be localised in 20 languages with versions in French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese available now.
The announcement broadens Firefly's reach to millions of new users, enabling them to generate images and text effects using their native languages.
Adobe also announced that over one billion assets have been generated on the Firefly website and on Photoshop so far.
"We’ve been amazed at how creators have been using Firefly to create more than a billion gorgeous images and text effects making it one of Adobe’s most successful betas ever in just over three months," said Ely Greenfield, CTO of Digital Media at Adobe. "Today’s announcement is about making Firefly accessible to more people in their preferred languages, so they can continue to leverage our unique model to bring their imagination to life and create the highest quality assets that are safe for commercial use."
Adobe Firefly is a prompt-based content generator, where users type words or descriptions and the AI system generates content based on that input. The service was launched in March and since then it's been integrated into Photoshop, Express and Illustrator.
Adobe also has Firefly for Enterprise, which gears the service towards the creative needs of businesses. Here, the service can be trained based on the branded assets, generating content that are in line with the brand's style and language.
Firefly is also different from other AI-powered image generators because it's trained on open source images and content from Adobe Stock. The service doesn't scrape the internet for references, so the content it generates are commercially safe and don't infringe on any copyrights. Every piece of content the service generates is also automatically tagged with Content Credentials, an open-source tech that shows key information for transparency purposes, such as name, date and the tools used to create the image, as well as any edits made.
